Clutch arm spring help

I have a YZ426f 2002 I removed my clutch arm to make it longer because the clutch was really stiff. Any how when I removed it I saw the return spring was like in pic 1. Pic 2 is the way I think it should go. What do guys think? Should the spring be in the notch or on the other side.

Set it so that as the arm is pulled the spring compresses .

The spring should pull against the cable to return the lever to its normal at rest position.
