Shifter drum alinement.

Recommended Posts

I'm putting my 88 XT350 motor back together after replacing the crank and new seals. On the shifter drum does it need to be in a certain spot when installing on the shifter forks? The clymer manual just has you installing shifter 1,3,and 2 in that order, is that all that you need to do to make sure everything is lined up? It seems to shift through all the gears.

I have not had to work on anything transmission related other than the clutch on my xt350 but I read the chapter in the Clymer manual and it seems simple enough. I believe if you followed the steps as they are listed and it shifts through the gears ok you did it right . The manual even states it that if it shifts through the gears with no problems you can proceed in putting the engine back together . Sorry I can't be of any more help than that .

Thanks I  just want to make sure I'm not missing something. I have put gearboxes back together before that bench shifted fine but when installed not so fine.
