Damaged oil screen 2004 KTM 450EXC

Recommended Posts

So I bought a KTM 450EXC a couple weeks ago. Rode it a couple times and decided to change the oil.

I discovered the drain plug and the short screen plug were rounded off. I drained the oil and bought a new drain plug from the dealer/installed plug.

Waiting on the BRAP aftermarket plug for the short oil screen (coming today) and the short oil screen (should be here in a couple days).

Used E-Z out for the bottom short screen plug and damaged the screen.

My questions:

My buddy wants to ride tomorrow. Was thinking about putting the "damaged" screen back in the bike and when next oil change comes along putting in the new oil screen...good idea?

Bike has been sitting for almost a week without any oil in it. Will this cause any problems? No one has tried starting it or kicking it over.

I've attached picture of the screen.

I just bought mine today.

The dealer advised me on how to change the screen or clean it properly.

I personally wouldn't ride it with a damaged screen.

Jmho.

How does someone damage the screen like that?

Rode it in the hills for 3 hours with no problems. New screen came today.

Hopefully I can get it in without losing too much oil... Might just wait until next oil change.

I would put the screen in.  The screen isn't for the tiny stuff, it's for the chunks and flakes that can damage the oil pump and gears.
