1976 xl175 no start?

Recommended Posts

Bought 2 honda xl175's, one of then was missing the points, which is the one with the title and in better shape, so I swapped the points out for the other one and now she has spark, I looked at the jets and they were pretty clean, bikes been sitting in a barn, has compression, spark, and gas, only thing I got it to do last night was backfire very loud. I lined up the points with the notch, so I don't think timing could be off, I'm almost out of ideas and I'd really like to get this old bike running...

"I lined up the points with the notch"

Was there a letter 'F' beside the notch you chose?

Was this notch aligned with the Index Mark rising

out from the left half of the crank case?

(The letter 'T' identifies the notch used for positioning

the piston at TDC in order to set tappet clearance.)

Point gap is 3-4mm (0.012-0.016"). Turn crank to

bring nose of cam into position under the rubbing

block or heel of the breaker points assy for measurement.
