1976 honda xl175 won't start?

Recommended Posts

Bought 2 honda xl175's, one of then was missing the points, which is the one with the title and in better shape, so I swapped the points out for the other one and now she has spark, I looked at the jets and they were pretty clean, bikes been sitting in a barn, has compression, spark, and gas, only thing I got it to do last night was backfire very loud. I lined up the points with the notch, so I don't think timing could be off, I'm almost out of ideas and I'd really like to get this old bike running...

I also cleaned the carb and compression tested it at 150psi

Pilot jet is clear, bike wouldn't even do anything with starting fluid. I read online it needs a battery to start or else the spark will be to weak, and it doesn't have a battery in it
