1998 cr 125 cylinder. steel? Or plated?

Recommended Posts

Most dirt bikes have had plated cylinders since the late eighties.

If a magnet sticks to it, it's been sleeved. If it were me, that cylinder would go in the trash. If it were me.

If replacing the cylinder isn't a financial option for you, then the first  thing you need to do is have it measured. Steel sleeves wear differently than plated cylinders and will often develop a belly in the top third of the cylinder, where the rings are pressing hardest against the cylinder due to combustion pressures. If the cylinder is no longer straight and true, or if it's out of spec, it needs to be bored to the next oversize.
