Wiseco pistons, made/quality cheaper.

Recommended Posts

I recently purchased 2 Wiseco pistons of the same size and number for 2 different bikes but both had forging and machining changes, or should I say lack of machining.

Top is for 1988 YZ80, mold used looks the same but finish isn't as nice as old piston.

Second is for a 1993 KX250, different mold used with poorer looking finish.

Both missing obvious lightening work.

Also you can see the weight difference.

I have been using Wiseco for as long as I can remember.

Looks like they made all there pistons cheaper but included a fancier box with the piston in cute little bags.......

I guess I would rather have the extra quality/machine work than the fancy packing.

Did they start having there blanks come from China? And just cut back costs by eliminating some of the machining programs?

That YZ250 piston doesn't look like a Pro Lite, it's a single-ring?

I'm due for a top-end sometime in the near future. I generally run the Racer's Choice in my KX 250. I'll have to compare them when I order the new one.

Let us know Chokey i'm interested in your comparison  ?
