yamaha yz250 keeps dropping out of first gear

hi lads i had a look at my bros bike the other day it runs great but won't go into first, Well it does some times but  keeps dropping out of first gear,I have taken it to bits and it look good inside but 2 of the fork shifters look a little worn,The rest of the gears are fine its just first he's having probe with, I think the year is a 95.

Are the dogs the gear lifter barrel lads,Here what i should have said before.Thanks  

yz250 bike.Problem is when you try to select first gear it will chatter and grind like it's 'half' in gear,it's not quite getting in the gear properly,other times it will click in ok.?,All other gears are fine incidentally,i can pull away in second.

Yes, that is definitely bad. I'm quite sure your going to have to replace those gears that aren't mating properly too. The dogs on the two mating gears will be worn from not engaging fully.

The dogs are what mesh the gears from the side. Once the engagement corners round off, that's when they start popping out of gear
