Bike Values

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

So I am thinking about getting another bike after selling my '07 KTM 200XC a year ago. I am looking at a 2001 YZ 250. The owner is asking $1900, but that seems a bit high, seeings how I only paid $2000 for my KTM. So I was just wondering what people thought was a fair price for an '01 YZ? I have pasted pics of both the KTM and YZ.

Thanks.

Looks like it is in pretty good condition.  If it ran alright I would say value is ~$1500.  I would have to see it in person though and would adjust my price accordingly.

I'd guess $1500 would be appropriate, for a well maintained 01.

Yea thats what I was thinking too. When I talked to the guy he said $1800 was his low, so I'll just have to pass on this one.

In so cal a 2001 is 1000-1200,

2002 is 1500-2000,

2003-2004 is 1200-1500

2005 is 2400 max

2006-2010 is 2600-3800

2009-2013 is 4200-4500

2014 new off the shelf is 7000

So why even bother with anything over 3600?

I would go new.

You can talk people into it if they are hurting, but like I said, why pay above 36 and not get new.

Just curious why is the low value of the 02 higher than the low value of the 03-04?

I am quoting in CA $$$. 02 is year around green sticker, 03-04 same bike red sticker 1/2 year fun, unless you are track master. Prices vary all over the USA, so disregard the 02-04 price in the other states that don't do the BS CA thing. All other states would be the low to high 1200-2000.

Wow that's really interesting I never thought of that. At first, I was wondering if maybe the 02 was more sought after, like maybe it had different power characteristics or what not

I am just quoting prices I see on CL in Komi-Fornia, for the past three years, I don't believe in the main stream auto/bike companies and their valuations. Depends on hours/rebuilds/#owners, etc. you can clean up any bike and put new plastic and graphics on it and say it's fresh. You really have to search out the good ones. Original owner is hard to find in this state.

Just picked up a barely used 05 for 1,900.00. Had to drive 120 mile round trip, but very clean crisp bike, would have liked a 06 for the suspension upgrade but eh, I'll register this one in AZ also and not have to drag bikes back and forth from house/state to house/state.

I'll post photos in the YZ photo thread later today, was a late night trip.

Geez....thats pricy.  BTW a 2 banga would be a two cylinder engine.   I know what you meant though and love mine as well just being a butthead.  :p

Even though a yz250 is a one banger it is still double the fun to have all that brap-tasticness on tap.
