Chest, neck, back, shoulder Protection

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

Newbie here at 34 yrs old, 5'-11". I am buying all proper gear while getting some training and slow pace riding.

Can anyone recommend a good chest, back, shoulder, stomach or neck protection that you use and is comfortable with? My riding will not be racing, just trail riding and joy riding, no big jumps.

I live in Houston Texas and gets hot here, so I am not sure if an entire body suit is best for me, but I take any recommendations.

Thank you TT family.

I use a thor quadrant chest protector with a Fly Valor neck brace. Its quite a comfy combo. I thought at first the brace wouldnt fit well with it, but then I soon found out the chest protector actually holds it firmly in place and almost like 1 unit when i slide the thoracic brace behind between my back/quadrant, snap it closed, and then push the front supports of the brace between the chest guard and my chest. Just one possible combo, but I know for ME...i was quite pleased at how well it works and how comfortable it is. That neck brace, after i followed the fitment instructions, was almost unnoticeable from the first few minutes I rode with it.

I WILL say though, for whatever reason on the trails I didnt like the neck brace as much. I dunno if I ride with a slightly different position in trails or what, but it seemed to interfere with my helmet more in trails...especially in trail whoops/rollers. It could probably be adjusted down to help with that, but I think the further you push the back down, the less protection it provides. I never feel it on the track whatsoever....or so that I notice...kind of strange.

I tried a bunch of chest protectors till I found something that worked - Tekvest.

Been wearing the Freestyle on dirt for years now.  When I first started riding dirt, I got all the dirt gear... went through a lot of plastic junk, frustrated with everything I tried... didn't fit right, really poor protection, uncomfortable with a pack, etc etc.

Upgraded to my snocross race vest for snowmobiling, and considered selling my old Freestyle vest for a while till I tried it on the dirt.

I sold the rest of my dirt chest protectors and have been wearing my Tekvest ever since.

Got a new "Crossover" vest this winter, will give that a shot this summer.  That may replace my freestyle - Ventilated more than the freestyle is, designed to work with a pack, and offers protection similar to my race vest.

Will a neck brace fit with any chest protector?

I use the Leatt neck brace and body armor (designed to work together).  No problem fitting it with a pack also.

You just have to go into a store and spend a few hours trying on stuff till you find something that fits OK.

Ewwww weeee weee, take it easy on the guy. Its not serious, he just a president doing what presidents do.......and that's making changes. Some people like the change and some people don't like it. End of the day, he is doing what's best for the country. Its not that serious to hate someone over something so small. It will all play out, makes the best of it. My father doing 88 years in prison, I haven't saw him since age 12....things could be worst.

I wear a Leatt 5.5 pro HD chest protector.  Review here:  http://www.thumpertalk.com/topic/1065393-leatt-55-pro-hd-chest-protector/

I live west of SA, so understand hot.  And this thing is warmer than just a chest protector.  When riding I don't notice it, but when we stop for a break I do...but it's not enough to make me stop wearing it or cause me to fall out.

Well, life is much more unaffordable with my increased taxes, higher healthcare costs all around, etc. And even the cronies working with Obama still project over 30 million uninsured Americans by 2020 with Obamacare. And this fixed the system which had 28 million uninsured? Can't see how it's good for the country.

It's not just that which I'm upset over.. it's everything. At his roots, Obama is a socialist/communist. All his actions indicate a deep belief that the government does it better than the individual. My wife's OBGN when we had our son a few months back said that Obamacare via the Sec of Health and Human Services is strongly discouraging c sections unless absolutely necessary, bc they cost more. Who in the world is an unelected government bureaucrat to tell my wife's doctor how best to care for her!?!? That's just one example of how Obama is eroding liberty and forcing his way into our lives. Oh he hates us, because we burn fossil fuels unnecessarily (despite him and his wife wasting millions of gals of jet fuel on their tax sponsored trips). They are power hungry hypocrites.

They always portray themselves as the "generous Democrats," but they are only generous with other people's money. But Obama is a millionaire! Why won't he give away some of his own cash to "lift the wages" of some other people who make less?? That's the center of the minimum wage battle, it will do nothing to help the economy. FDR tried this in the NewDeal and it hindered job creation and economic growth for over a decade. I fact, the Supreme Court rejected the min wage in the 1920s because it "interferes with your right to contract with your employer." That makes too much sense though for Dems to wrap their head around. I pray for the country.

I agree with you 100%, but as a friend, take it to Town Square. More fun there too.

i agree you are best off to find a few shops in local area, see what they sell, etc. And go in there and pretend your interested if need be, but just try various combos on, lol. But be aware that unless they will let you sit there and adjust braces, they may not feel QUITE right. I tried mine on as it came originally for fun, and afterwards its quite a bit more comfortable. Before adjustment it didnt sit right, etc. However, you should be able to see if its going to work with a chest protector. I can't say if they will work with every single one because this is the first one I bought (and still have) since I got back into riding a couple years ago. I dont even see a ton of people wearing chest protectors it seems, but I dont think id ever NOT wear it. Doesnt bother me at all...Plus if i ever went chest first into a tree or took a big rock off the chest, id rather be a lil hotter and have it on, haha.

It's not in my nature to ignore such life impacting things. There at a lotta independents prolly like urself who pay little attention to politics, but I'm a staunch right winger who sees so much damage being caused. Why wouldn't I take a stand?
