Drz400sm with 21" front tyre

Recommended Posts

I am just wondering if anyone has retained the 17" sm rear rim and thrown a 21" front on for offroad? I currently run heidenau k60 front and rear. Essently two rear tires. I've found them to be great compromise tire, for gravel and Tarmac but I can't find the confidence in that front tire on single track and loose stuff.

Is there a balance issue for running 21/17 set up in order to minimize my costs of buying a set of 21/18.

Any info helps.

Bump this back to the top. Anyone tried it?

Try the DRZ forum under dirt bikes.

You'll be fine, 21" rolls better in the dirt.  KLR650's use 21/17 rim combo also.

Old XR's and XL's (Honda) were 17/21. I still ride one. No worries. Depending on the tire, you can almost eliminate the size difference if you want.

I love my 17's all the way around! I forget I even have a 4" smaller wheel on the front when I get jammin on the trails! ImageUploadedByThumper Talk1401046579.760676.jpg

A 21 on the front would be the ticket,  as the rear is ok for offroading,  its the front 17 that sucks IMO.

Id like to see a pic of a 17/21 combo.
