Bore size measurement =/= Piston size

Recommended Posts

I have a '93 yz125 that i am rebuilding, i bought a digital caliper to measure the bore/cylinder to see if it has been bored

The original bore size is 56.00mm, when i measured the highest number i got was 55.93, most numbers from cyclinder/bore were ~55.50-55.70 (measuring at different angles)

So is this the original bore size ? and should i be ordering a new 56.00mm piston ?

Your best bet is to take it to a Machinist and have him measure it with a dial bore gauge. He will be able to measure down inside the middle portion of the cylinder, where the wear is the greatest, and he'll be able to tell you if you need to overbore, replate, etc..

Vernier calipers won't cut it for a bore measurment. You need telescopic bore gauges and a mic or a dial or digital bore guage.
