Play bike choices

Recommended Posts

I'm looking at a play bike The missus has a new bike and her old ttr125 is being sold, it would just be for riding the paddocks and little track at home, first choice was a kx100 as it's little, light descent power, and I can get the misses some seat time on her first 2 stroke, second choice a kx125, or dirt cheap deal on a ktm200 that looks to be super clean, but I'm worryed the 200 will be no good for its intended purpose for me and the miss to trash around the property and have some fun I no they have a tall seat height like my 520 and are a bit heavy so really not the best choice for the misses but would be great for me.. I'm leaning towards the kx100 mainly the three bikes im looking at are all very close in price so that dosnt matter the kx100 2004,kx125 2002,ktm200 1998, the kx had a topend 10 hours ago and a clutch 4 hours ago.

Me being 5'7 and close to 200 lbs

Missus 5'6 120 lbs, I'm worryed my weight would Max the little kx100 out and take alot of fun out of it..

I'd get a 200 and lower it.

Best of all 3.

I will have to see a pic of your 'missus' first, in order to determine which motorcycle best suits her......... hehehe.

But I will have to say, go for the kx100!!!!!!

I do love ktms, but I like the kx100 is about 75 kg and the others pushing 100kg so that another plus for the kx100, I've never rode a kx100 would the size be similar to a ttr125 big wheel I no the ttr are shorter

No you are right but I'm trying to find a happy I between, as long as it's going to have enoufe power to tear around the paddock having fun I'll be happy I'll be riding it more then the misses but it would be perfect to have her get over her fear of 2 stokes, we both have other bikes for track/trail just trying to figure out best "play bike " for both to enjoy.. but not a gutless pig

Maybe I'll give the kx100 a try I can always sell it.. I just think there is zero chance she will give a ktm 200 a go and if she does it is not going to be pretty.. Once she learns to ride a 2 stroke and knows what to expect get a bigger one we can both enjoy a bit more.. Picking a bike is always so confusing to make great bikes out there

The power delivery of the KTM200 is far more beginner friendly than the KX100.

A KX 125 wouldn't be a "play bike" for her at all. Even the KX 100 might have a little to much hit/pipe/ride it on top going on for her also. The KTM would be OK, but it still is going to take off if she twists the grip.

I'd recommend (as a play bike) a CRF230F, KDX 200 (way smoother power delivery than the KTM), XR 200/250. These bikes can get it done and don't have that "race bike" feel to them.

She has a crf230 already, the idea is a light, small, 2 stroke to play around in the yards and our track basically to trash cause my 520 gets bit big for around her, and for a bike for the misses to learn how to ride a 2 stroke on so ktm 200 is not the best choice altho it's tempting a 125 a little to heavy and powerful for her, even tho the kx100 power band is very snappy it will teach her to ride a 2stroke I thinking as if u can ride a bike with nothing nothing full power a bigger 2 stroke with my bottom end and less aggressive hitting power band would

Be easyer later on..

That's my thinking anyway

ok heres my 2c.

i have a 93 kdx200 and it about 110kg wit fuel etc.and the seat heights pretty low on them as well... the power deliverys kinda easy goin for a 2stk too wich makes it a forgiving bike to learn on..allthough they can haul ass when u wanna. lol.. u will be hard pressed to find a more reliable 2t than a kdx. over 100 hr trail riding on a piston im talkin....not tryn to brainwash u just sayin they good bikes
