Removing carbon from power valves, 03' 250

afternoon all,

 

I am in the midst of putting a new top end in and have got the flapper valves out.  I have searched and found that oven cleaner works well.  I have never tried this.  I have always just soaked, picked with my finger nails and soaked and picked more.  Never used brillo, scouring or any other pad.  Certainly not a wire wheel or grinder and will not.  I like the oven cleaner option.  How effective is the oven cleaner and is there anything else?

I use a wire wheel...not sure what the big deal is

I use a wire wheel too. Just not the stiff bristle kind. Works great.

Just done mine. Left in engine degreaser over night , then got a wire brush attachment on the drill. They have came up great
