97 CR250R Oil Question.

Recommended Posts

Time to change the oil on my 97. I read some of the forums and some people said 80 weight transmission oil was the best others said 10w40. The manual says 10w40 but the bike shop recommended the 80 weight. So it seems like it could go either way.

Will the 80 weight be to thick for my 97? Does it matter? Will the 10w40 be to thin based on age?

Any help is appreciated.

gear oil and engine oil viscosity are two separate scales. 80w gear oil and 40w engine oil should be near the same viscosity when warm. having said that your going to have to try and see wich one works best with the clutch. I've had good luck with 10w40 petroleum motorcycle engine oil like gn4 or similar. if you do use part or all atf use type f and not some modern stuff.
