rear shock rebuild

Recommended Posts

Just bought a 1997 XR200R.  Rear shock appears to have leaked oil.  Pressing down on the seat seems too easy and rebound dampening seems nonexistent.  It just bounces.  Hitting little bumps just sends you bouncing up and down.  I priced a rear shock.  OEM is $500 to $600.  There is some Moose racing shock seal head kit for around $37.  Is that all it needs?  Help!

Best is to have your stock shock rebuilt by a good motorcycle suspension guy. It will likely run a couple hundred bucks.

Buying a used shock is a waste of time as it will likely be in need of a rebuild also. Trying to rebuild your own may or may not be possible by all persons.

All my stuff goes to a local guy who is known nationwide. Everytime I get something back from him I am completely amazed at how much better it works.

Thanks for info.  Do you have a name and number for the guy you use?

I use
Hlebo Bros Suspension in San Jose 408-623-3121. Very hard to get a hold of this time of year as they support lots of the pro dirt rack racers during the high point of the season.

I would try Race Tech or find someone local. Must be a bunch of guys in Utah.
