XR400 kickstarter wear - safety tip

Recommended Posts

Hey all: new to this site and thanks for all the XR400 tips. Wanted to share one of my own. Just picked up a 2001 with possibly low miles and priced right.

When kicking it my foot kept slipping of the kick starter. Closer inspection revealed the ridges were totally worn off as well as bigger ridge at the end. A friend at a welding shop ran a few beads for me to build up the ridges and end ridge. I clean them up and made them a little sharper with the dremel. Now my foot does not slip off and the scabs on my shin are healing. (couple of kicks without the boots on while test driving did that). Take a look at yours check for wear.

Working on the jetting to reduce the kicking in the future. Last start was one kick, so things are looking good with the new jets.
