Decompression Cable - 1987 XT 600

Recommended Posts

I am searching for the exact length of a decompression cable for a 1987 XT 600. Nipple to nipple. New cables are expensive and hard to find - I have the materials to swage/solder my own but don't know the length. Information is in in the standard service manual. I think it is 28-31" therabouts.

Thanks for the help.

Have you checked to see if the XT550 or TT600 cable will work? The TT is a lot more common than the XT, at least out my way anyway.

I ended up estimating the length of the old cable then silver soldering the old nipple that I drilled out. Was within the adjustment range. Took 20 minutes and is solid. I did have to grind the solder flush with the nut to get it to fit with finger pressure. I'll look for the length of the TT cabe as we'll. thanks for responding.

Glad you got a solution.

I realize it's too late, but I remember using bicycle brake cables on my XT for the clutch till I got a replacement.
