1986 Cr80 coolant in Oil.

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

So I have a Cr80 that is in nice shape for its age, was kept in a barn for about 5 years though.  The compression is excellent and fires right up first kick, cold or hot.

Problem is that coolant is getting in the gear box and pretty quick.  I'll replace the oil and it will be green and bubbly in very short order, the strange thing is the weep hole is not plugged and it never drips any coolant.

If the pump seals were shot, it would be dripping out the weep hole correct?.  What other possible ways could it be getting into the gear box?

Thanks.

I believe the mid 80s cr's had a problem with the magnesium case rotting out at the water pump. If there is no coolant in the crank case and the weep hole is clear and not leaking a good look inside the water pump should reveal the problem
