Carburetor Corrosion

Recommended Posts

I noticed quite a bit of metal corrosion when I had my carb apart for cleaning.  Is my carb junk?  Should it be replaced?  FYI, I found a metal flake inside the air cutoff valve so it is evidently flaking apart.

I decided to replace the entire carb to be on the safe side.  $175 is a small price to pay when the alternative is potential engine damage.

So...carb parts for sale (everything but the carb body of course)!  Any buyers???

Mossman, I think that was a good decision.  For a 7 year old carb, that was just crazy corrosion.  I wonder if there was a defect in the manufacturing?

I've seen that happen when people were using way too much Dry Gas up in NY.  I had one Rochester 2G with an actual hole in the float bowl area.  Nasty stuff.  I suspect ethanol would have the exact same effect.  There's no telling what has happened to the internal passages or metering orifices.

How does the bowl, main nut, and drain screw look?

Bowl has powdery gray residue and float bowl screw had rust and other crap in it.

...drain screw had dark slimy substance on it ans so did the drain tube.
