Shim newbie asking for help

Recommended Posts

To begin with I need to understand how the numbering system on the stack sheet relate to the shims dimensions (i.e. 20, .11, 8 on the stack sheet). I'm trying to make a change to the fork mid valve on my '07 KX450 but I'm having trouble ordering the shims. I've looked at the RT, SDI, other sites & I'm not able to find a couple of 14x.11 shims. SDI has the other 11x.11 shims I need but they have different OD's on these so I don't know what to get. Can someone help me out.

In your example, 20 is the shim outside diameter in mm, .11 is the shim thickness in mm and 8 is the shim inside diameter. ID is rarely given in a stack since most shims in a stack will use the same shaft diameter and hence the same ID, but it's important when ordering. Typical shim thicknesses will be .11, .15, .20, .25 and .30. So if you see 38.30, that's 38mm OD and .30mm thick.
