Different Sprockets/wheels, Same chain?

Recommended Posts

OK, I'm sure this has been beat to death here and understand that I have already spent quality work time searching the site for the answer with no lock so, here it goes;

I have an SModel with dirt and SM wheels. Can I go 14/47 on the dirt and 14/39 or 14/41 on the SM wheel and use the same chain? I'm sure someone out there has figured out the best solution. Is 112 link too long for 14/39, 14/41? is 110 too short for 14/47?

Can I go 15/39 and 15/47 with the 112? My goal here is to keep the chain and CS when swapping wheels. What is the happy medium? I commute on the SM wheels and never need to go much faster than 60mph (minimal freeway).

Any thoughts on this will be appreciated :ride:

i have a stock S chain on 112 links with 17's with 15/41 gearing on now.

Any room? Im thinking about buying a 14/47 set with a 112 chain and a 41 tooth for the 17" wheel. Then I'd be 14/47 dirt, 14/41 SM with the 112 chain for both set ups and hope that will work.

Im on 4 1/2 on the stock S snail adjusters.

I dont know too much about gearing,  i tried 16/44   15/44 and 14/44 on the stock S trim,  and always like stock the best.

14/47 and a 112 link chain are what the E models run stock.

I ran the same chain between my 14/47 and 14/44 S and SM set ups.
