XR250L Rear shock swap

Recommended Posts

I have a 93 XR250L that I am working on getting a little more off-road orientated. I also have an 84 XR250r in parts. I  am wondering if the rear shock off the "r" will fit the "L" at a glance they look similar but I am being lazy and don't want to pull everything apart if someone has already tried this.... also I am wondering if it worth the effort even if it does fit...?  I  have never ridden the r so I don't have an idea what the suspension is like on those compared to the L.

Thanks!

HIYA ... SLOW AND JERKY.... I AM NOT REAL SURE ABOUT YOUR PARTICULAR REAR SHOCK SWAP,,,BUT IF THIS WILL HELP YOU DECIDE ON GIVING IT A WHIRL,,,HAVE AT IT!.........I HAVE A 93 XR250R..AND WAS IN NEED OF A REAR SHOCK REBUILD. WELL IN THE PROCESS OF SEARCHING FOR A LOCAL MECHANIC TO REBUILD IT I FOUND A GUY SELLING PARTS OFF OF A 92 CR250, SO I GAVE HIM A CALL BOUGHT THE SOCK(EVEN THO THE GUY HAD NO CLUE IF IT WOULD WORK FOR ME)AND BEGAN THE TEAR DOWN WHICH LOOKED LIKE IT MIGHT WORK OUT......ABOUT AN HOUR OR SO LATER I HAD IT INSTALLED COMPLETELY AND WAS OUT TRYING IT OUT........FORTUNATELY FOR ME ....IT WORKED OUT FINE ......IT WAS SOMEWHAT OF A STIFFER RIDE(BUT NOT MUCH)PROBABLY BECAUSE MY OLD SHOCK WAS WORN OUT....BUT ITS BEEN FINE AND I USED TO IT TEN FOLDS OVER NOW........SO I SAY ....IF YOUR SHOCK LOOKS CLOSE TO WHAT IS ORIGINALLY THERE GO FOR IT......WELL WORTH THE EFFORT FOR ME......P.S. PLUS I GOT THE CR PARTS SHOCK A LOT CHEAPER THEN A REBUILD OR NEW.......GOOD LUCK MY FRIEND! AND HAPPY RIDING!.....~~~~~BYRDDOG

I would like a softer spring on my 250L. The spring seems like it's for carrying a passenger.  If I loosen it up where it works well, I have five inches of sag.  That is where it works best.
