California Places To Ride Near Huntington Beach

Recommended Posts

Looking at the possibility of moving to the Huntington Beach area.  One thing I would like to continue doing is riding and getting my kids involved in the sport. Job is in Huntington Beach is there many places to ride close to this area, and how far of a drive is good riding? Also what kind of riding it sand, rocky, or dirt and forest?

Baldy Mesa 60 mins

Silverwood Lake Dam or Miller 90 mins

Gorman, Stoddard, El Mirage dry lake 90 mins

Johnson Valley 2 hours

Jawbone, Dove Springs, Cal City, Spangler 2.5 hours

Ocotillo Wells 3 hrs

More details on all these areas: http://ridersonline.org/2012/smf/index.php/board,6.0.html

never mind the off roading i want to see you ***drive*** to the riding area......

as the OP is from indiana, he may not be aware that california has a custom

of expressing a trip in terms of time instead of distance.

we will say... it's a fifteen minute drive... or it's a 30 minute drive.

this is code for.... it's a 58 minute drive, not during rush hour,

and.... pack a lunch.

if your bikes are plated, you have more options.

there are plated, green stickie, and red stickie bikes here.

plated means you can use your damn motorcycle.

green stickie means you can use your motorcycle off road.

red stickie means you can use your motorcycle tuesday, with the

permission of the sierra club.

if you drive out of the basin, there are mountains where you can ride.

beyond that are deserts where you can ride.

the travel times listed above are severely optimistic. i used to live in

baldy mesa, and i can get there from my house in huntington beach

in an hour, on a sportbike, in the 90~100 mph range. it's 86 miles.

You be on crack...  HB to Baldy Mesa OHV is 70 miles door to door.  An hour +/- a couple minutes unless you go riding during the week in rush hour,  Lived in HB & Costa Mesa my whole adult life.  Those drive times are dead on unless you find a way to get stuck in traffic.

You ain't so fast as you think...  I pull those times with a truck & trailer.  :p

Silverwood ain't no real rorest

I tend to agree.  Nothing really in Silverwood or Big bear would be considered forest if compared to Kennedy Meadows.
