black smoke, sputters on low throttle twist, hard to start

Recommended Posts

Ok I've got a buddy who has an 08 kawi 450. He has a high flow filter and this is the wierd part. It has a fmf powerbomb header with a two brothers slip, that's how he bought it. It sputters from low to almost half throttle, blows some black smoke and takes forever to start once it's warm. He got a jd jet kit but it doesn't seem to help. Any thoughts? I'm thinking it's too lean on the bottom and maybe to rich up top because of the black smoke. Any thoughts would help.

There is no reason to change jetting randomly

Stock jetting is close enough

..or you can go to

NCVS ....is an improvement

You may have a clogged pilot jet, and bad gas corrosion however

...your description is of a pilot jet that fell out, or a intake air jet that is clogged

...but have you every adjusted the valves? ...the fuel screw?

Ya, the air fuel screw is out one and a half turns and that helps some but not much. He only changed the jets because of the filter change and exhaust
