650l speedo on a 600?

Recommended Posts

Im putting together an xr 600 front end. I was just going to make a spacer for the right side. But i would love a Speedo on this bike. Is it possible to fit a Speedo mechanism in the wheel and use either a 650l or 250l speedo or any cable driven speedo for that matter?

Anyone done this? I currently use a GPS for my speedo.

Depends on the frontend you're putting together. Early Rs have a smaller axle that will accept many different speedo drives while Ls all have a larger axle. If you're using a 93 up R fork and wheel the L speedo drive or R odometer drive should both work.

I temporarily adapted a CRF wheel to the smaller 17mm axle.  It's not worth the hassle, especially considering that the wheels are functionally the same.  Plus the CRF hubs have a slightly different odometer drive geometry than the XRs.  Also the CRF/R wheel hubs don't have the drive tangs for the odometer; only the CRF/X hubs do.  It's not like the XR/CR wheels where the odo drive washer could be swapped in and out of the hub.
