how to remove spark arrestor

Recommended Posts

There should be a screw at the end of the muffler that holds it in . You might have to use pliers to pull it out .

If I remember correctly it is one screw at the end of the muffler that overlaps in front of the spark arrestor take that out and it should slide right out.

gives a deeper tone and flows better on most bikes.

Haven't been here in a bit- I did get it out- it really didn't want to come out but it did eventually.

I also drilled some holes in the airbox cover and the bike idles much better.

And it sounds better :p

You can add holes to the "tube" portion of the spark arrestor and not defeat the spark arresting. I did that and added holes to the airbox cover of mine (I had an '87) and I used those foam filter plug-in things for the holes.  The outer plastic kept the water crossings out of the airbox. It did improve it quite a bit, and required a switch in jetting.  It wasn't that much louder, but did run much better.

If you use a good grade of copper based anti-sieze, the spark arrestor won't glue itself in and you can remove it easily.
