I posted this already. I think in the wrong spot though. Sorry. New to the forums.

2014 XR650L. Probly a noob question, but at 65-70 am I running on the main jet alone? bike seems to get hot. I put a slip on and went from 50/152 to 55/155 with a .020 shim under needle. Before I did any of that it seemed to get hot just putting around in the woods. The oil tank in the neck would get too hot to touch. It runs ALOT bettericon1.png/cooler with the slip on and bigger jets until I have to get on freeway. even though im at 1/4-1/3 throttle scootin down the highway@65-70 its still on the main jet right?  I guess really what im trying to understand is if the throttle position has anything to do with what circuit the bike is running on while in 5th at 65-70 mph. thanks in advance!

MPH can not determin which jet.

It is all about throttle position

3/5 throttle and up is main jet

You are describing the needle throttle position.

You can get needles with different tapers and diameters.

Raising/lowering the needle covers the 1/5 section of throttle + a bit more.

Diameter and taper cover the rest up to the main jet
