crankshaft installer

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know the part numbers for the special tools to install the crank on the drz 400s?  My 2001 drz400e factory service manual gives the part number for the installer (09910-32812) and an attachment (09940-52861).  The attachment cannot be the right number because that is a fork seal driver.  Even the pages in the back of the book that lists all special tools for the bike doesn't list any attachment to install the crank.

You don't need an 'installer' to put it back together

Insert LH main in to case (warm case so bearing drops in) - do same with RH side

Warm bearing to expand the inner race and drop crank in

When ready to assemble RH crankcase, just warm the bearing again and drop the case on

Easy - done 3 like this with no problems

As always there are many ways to do the task

Some right

Some that work most times

And some that are just a bad idea

Using a crank puller is never a bad idea and falls in the done right category

Heating the case to expand and freezing the bearings works most times just fine.....Until it doesn't then you need the right tool

The tusk crank puller is a nice light duty tool that works as advertised
