04 SMR 450 carb/fuel?

Recommended Posts

Whilst riding my bike today, it cut out a few times at low rpm (for example approaching a set of traffic lights when just pulling the clutch in) and took a few minutes to get going again. Finally though it cut out and now refuses to start. She's got a healthy spark, draws fuel through a treat and cranks over but never fires up. Had the AA out, he thought the carb may be drawing air in and not having a decent vacuum.

Any ideas? Good clean fix it or is it new carb time? 41mm on it I believe. Any advice appreciated, thanks

Get rid of the crappy mikuni carb and replace it with a keihin fcr 41 and it will run like it should have from New.

being an '04 check all the valve clearances 1st..,

then worry about dirty fuel ,

 blocked jets, etc,

If you still have the original valves I'd put money on that being your problem. Check your valve clearances first. Good thing is on these bikes checking and adjusting valves is EASY.
