RM250 cylinder gasket - which direction?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have a problem, I have a RM250 and had forgot to make a photo during disassembling the cylinder. Now I will install it again. But I do not know the right way for the gasket. (there are 6 possibilities)...

There are 3 bigger holes and 3x2 small holes on it for the water circuit.

Were should the bigger holes located?

If you know solution, please share your knowledge :D

Please see attached pictures.

Thanks in Advance!

I hope you don't plan to reuse that gasket.

To answer your question, Usually they only fit one way due to the stud pattern.

If it fits more than one way it will work what ever way it fits.

Blue engine and the cylinder head having a mounting lug to the rear should make your engine a 1988 model.

From the parts diagrams the head gasket should be positioned with the small holes to the front.

The holes in the head gasket are to control the flow of coolant through the cylinder and across the head in a certain way in an attempt to keep unifom tempratures and prevent hot spots.

The design and position of the holes in the gasket can change for various reasons such as where the coolant outlet on the head is positioned.
