Is a stock KX65 cylinder plated or cast iron?

Recommended Posts

Plated. Can be replated for a reasonable amount if from US Chrome and I'm sure there are other companies, but US Chrome is the only one I have experience with.

Be careful though, some people think they're saving money by sleeving it which produces a little bit less power and needs to be over bored, often with every piston replacement which ends up being more expensive than replating that lasts several top ends longer than a sleeve. Use a magnet inside the bore to check, if it sticks, it's been sleeved which can't be replated.

It's plated, either electrofusion or Nikasil.  You won't find many 2ts with an iron bore anymore.

Electrofusion is slightly softer but more forgiving, and you can "hone" an electrofusion bore with a scotch brite pad in preparation for a new top end.  I had Nikasil flake out of a CR125.
