Picked this bike up as is for 300 bucks its an 01 he put a new top end in then couldn't get it to run. Well pulled the carb cleaned her good she fired right up. It revs high after start and something is rattling up front havent dug into it much after the carb so she needs plastics and a seat chain is rusty no forks are leaking and tires are in great shape!

Nice ride, just sold my '02 to make room in storage. Won't be my last 125 however, super fun bikes!

There is some surface rust on the exhaust pipe is it toast it can it be fixed

High revving is either lean carb or air leak. I'm leaning towards air leak. With some work, it'll be an incredible bike!!

i agree i ordered plastics they will be here Monday just need to find a seat and fix the hopefully air leak

I agree with air leak, maybe, I think lean, really not a big issue.  GET THE SERVICE MANUAL!!  Document everything so you know what works and doesn't.

 

Fatten it up a bit and see if it is a little better.  Spray carb cleaner around the carb with it running, helps find a leak.  What a deal, have fun!!

Air leak for sure man. You don't want to run it anymore or you'll fry your piston. Do what mrjata said with the carb cleaner to be sure its an air leak. BTW you practically stole the bike. You got a great deal on it.

So dont run the bike or run it to look for the air leak?

Run it to look for the air leak but what I meant to say was don't go out and ride it. Air leak creates a lean condition which will fry your piston. Not right away but if you ride it like that it will happen.

Like yzx said, run it to find/rule out an air leak, but don't ride it until the high revving idle issue is fixed. Or your new top-end could get ruined.

So it would be leaking from one of the carb boots or exhaust header right?

Or the crankcase seal, or the crankshaft seals, or the powervalve seals, or.........................................................

Not really thrilled with how the plastics look... Gonna paint the tank black ordered oring and spring exhaust set the pipe is leaking hoping thats the cause of high idle also ordered a seat new stock levers new air filter and a couple other little things

A leaking exhaust gasket will NOT cause the lean condition you describe. Build a 2 stroke leak tester.

 

Why didn't you order the blue plastics?

Ill look into building a tester and already called and ordered the blue plastics costing me 12 bucks to restock and get blues
