Getting ready to pull the trigger... opinions

Recommended Posts

So the bike finally rolled 500 miles so Im ready to pull the trigger on some mods.
So tossing it out to others for opinions on my proposed plans.

My Info:

- 2012 S Model, bought new, currently sitting at 500ish miles (1st phase of break in complete)
- Altitude 700ish ft. above sea level, NC/Southeast US humidity

My proposed Mods:

Yoshimura RS-2 full system WITH insert
3x3 Airbox
JD Jetting kit with extended fuel screw and hex bolts
- Main 155
- Pilot 22.5 with extended fuel screw
- Blue Needle 4th Clip Position
- Mixture Screw 2.75 turns out.
K&N air filter or stock air filter

Logic behind my choices:

- I will keep the insert in the pipe, Im not looking for a high output engine, just looking for a bit more low end snap,
a little more bling, and a better exhaust note without having to deal with a overly loud exhaust
- No FCR, thanks to Craigo for pointing out that since I intend to keep the insert in, the FCR will be more hassle than
benefit, not to mention it'll save me a good chunk of money

Questions:

- How's my proposed jetting look?
- Would the K&N filter provide any benefit combined with the 3x3 and JD jet kit? Current air filter is stock and quite clean
since the bike only has 500ish mostly road miles on it

Thoughts and opinions welcome.

I'll let Craigo chime in on the jetting since he's the master, but did want to say I like your logic on the muffler choice....

Save that money the FCR would have cost and put it aside. Someday you'll want a BB kit......

I just did those exact mods (different jetting as I'm at 3200ft asl)

Really enjoy the new life the mods brought to my 2013 SM

I'm sure you will like it

I have exactly the same setup with the following exceptions:

Extended fuel screw and 22.5 PJ - suggest you do this as for about $15 or so why wouldn't you?

Blue needle 3rd clip

I'm at sea level

It runs much better and without any low speed surging.

You're right about the 22.5 PJ, Im buying the extended fuel screw, updated my info.

Seems the blue needle 4th clip is whats recommended most of the time with an aftermarket exhaust.

I can't believe you only have 500 miles on it! My 14' has 3400

I bought it as a left over about a month ago, its not 2yrs old :)

I set mine up on 3rd clip from the get go and it ran well so I saw no reason for further experiment.

It's just FYI what I'm doing - not a recommendation of 3rd clip over 4th clip.

Pulling the carb isn't fun in my books, so if you get it right (or good) first time, then you're in a good place.

You guys have got it nailed...

Use blue needle, clip 3 setting for permanent quiet insert and humid climate...

clip 4 for open pipe.....

Other settings as per opening post

Sounds good to me, I'll go with 3rd clip, I simply chose 4th clip by searching the fuel/intake forum and using the most common reference, but if you're running

the exact same setup and same altitude, I'll use your experience to my advantage  :)

Wombat, which RS2 muffler did you go with, the carbon fiber or the stainless? Im leaning toward the stainless for the extra "shininess".

Just had a quick look on Google and that seems a good price.

Jet kit came today, got that installed. Boy do I wish Suzuki would have given us just another 1/4 of room to get the carb out. I really scratched up the frame on my 2 month old bike  :(

RS2 should be here tomorrow, can't wait  :)

I know what you mean lol, I use a little bottle of Dupli-Color (brush in cap) to fix those little boogers.

Good idea! Guess I'll hit up the auto stores tomorrow to see if they have any in stock.
