welded rims

Recommended Posts

I've got both rims welded on my bike and want to know if they will pass scrutineering for the Finke Dessert Race (Australia) ? If any1 can let me know asap it would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

Yann

What do you mean they're welded on the bike? As in the rim is permanently attached?

Sorry I wasn't clear.

I found out that both my rims are cracked so I got them welded but I don't know if they will pass the scrutineering...

They can say it's not safe or it shouldn't be welded but replaced...

I don't know, what do you reckon ?

The following may be checked on your machine at scrutineering or at an equivalent test:

- noise emissions do not exceed 95dba at 30 metres

- throttle must be self closing

- brake and clutch free play and effectiveness

- wheel and frame bearings

- chain adjustment

- no fluid leaks (oil, coolant, brake fluid)

- handlebar ends must be plugged and hand levers must be ball ended

- centre and side stand removal (except Moto Trials and Enduro machines)

- nitrous oxide and nitro methane is allowed in drag racing and speed record attempts

only

That's what the book says so it should be ok but I don't wanna miss the desert finke race just because of my rims !!

Post a pic of them? sometimes you can polish them up and stick a little die grinder to them to be hardly noticeable anyway.

I will post a photo but I haven't picked up my rims yet, they are still with the welder...

Brand new rims are welded, so....?

Um, yeah this! You probably didn't have a "crack" so to say, but a factory weld that let go...not all that uncommon really.
