Bike ID Challenge!

Recommended Posts

So, here is the challenge!!!

My frame number is MD30 1008064

I believe the "M" is for Japan

The "D" is for enduro type

What do the other numbers signify!?!?!

What I'm really trying to find out is, what is the origin model and what year is it!!!!

First person with the correct substantiated answer gets a pint the next time they are in Wiltshire, Englandshire!

So after a little more investigation on another forum, this is what I have now got to......

Frame number is: M D 30 1 0 08064

M         = CC with M up to 250

D          = type of bike, “D” being enduro

30        = Production number?  What does this mean?

1          = Version, What is version?

0          = Series??  What is series?

08064 = Serial number.  What year is this??

I was told by the guy that sold it to me that it was a 1997 XR L, When I removed the battery cover the sticker on the frame said XR S !?!?!?

I'd REALLY like to know the year and specific model!

Thanks for your help in advance!

Ive got the MD30 140

They are Jap imports that use components from both the XR250L and the XR250R,

The bike make and model for yours is technically a XR250S

250s.jpg

The year sounds about right, as mine is the XR250W frame number MD30 140 and from what i found it seemed to be 1999/2000

That's great info, thanks!!!! I've sent a mail to Honda too, to try and get a specific year.

When it comes to parts and servicing how do decide if it's an R or an L part!?!?!

i get the part numbers form the Japanese manual, this has got me sorted every time. the text is in Jap but look at the pictures and match it up to the Honda part number

i order the part from AJ Sutton http://www.ajsutton.co.uk/ they have good prices and deliver to your door, sometime when you type in a part number the website says its for a different bike but i have never had issues (i have ordered carb gasket kits, screws all sorts of things)

Parts Fiche - https://www.dropbox.com/s/b30mb9ox09ubz0m/honda_xr250%2C_baja_95-98_fiche.pdf

most of the parts are from the R except when it come to the carb, electric start and chain and sprocket sizes

I have spoken with our Technical department, they have advised the below:

The only Identification I can do with this ( due to age ) is taken from web EPC, please see below.

XR250SJ 1995 Model in Ross White ( NH196)

Thank you for contacting Honda (UK).

Due to age?  Are you kidding me?  Did the dog eat the records?

When I called American Honda about my '91, they knew the original owner's name!

Yeah, I know....... I read "due to age" as "due to us not giving a toss and getting bored trying to find out, here's our response, now bugger off"
