Question about rear tire sizes - Going from 18 to 19 rear

Recommended Posts

Hello, picked up a set of wheels for my DRZ at a great price. The rear tire is 19in. I've found plenty of people who run 19s on their DRZs, but not much for tire size data.

I'm fairly certain I'm going to throw a set of Kenda TrakMaster's on these wheels.

Right now, I have a rear tire that is: 120/100x18 >> 5.10x18

Is it safe to assume that since I'm running a wheel that is one inch larger, to keep the same diameter I should go for a 19" that has a shorter sidewall?

For instance, a 120/100x18 >> 5.10x18 should be comparable to a 100/90x19 >> 4.10x19.

Thanks for your advice in advance!

I would stay with a 120 which is the width.  The profile is the middle number, go for the K760 120/90/19.  Most DOT knobs are narrower than MX knobs of the same numeral size.

120mm wide x 100% = 120mm tall + 18" (457.2mm) + 120mm tall = 697.2mm (27.449" OD)

100mm wide x 90% = 90mm tall + 19" (482.6mm) + 90mm tall = 662.6mm (26.087" OD)

1.362" difference.

120mm x 90 % = 108mm + 19" (482.6mm) + 108mm = 698.6mm (27.504)

.055" difference.

Ah, thanks guys. That makes much more sense now.

I'll see what I can find in a 120/80x19 as if my math is right that would be more similar to my current setup.

Thanks!
