smaller wheel XR 200

Recommended Posts

Hi.

Is there a easy swap for smaller wheels into a '01 XR 200? Currently, it's 21/17".

The NX uses 19/16". But it looks like the NX uses disk brake...may require too extensive modification. And NX parts is probably expensive and hard to come by. Although disk brake would be sweet for stunting.

I want to get the seat lower to the ground. I stopped riding trail and want to stunt. So lower to the

ground is better. Also, I want to get my XR street legal so it can be a commuter also.

I guess another option is to sell the 200 and buy a CRF 150F. But I don't really want to do that becuz the 150F weighs more than the 200.

Some early mini bikes had 19/16 drum brake wheels.

Or make a disc brake adapter ala:

http://www.thumpertalk.com/topic/839808-project-disc-brake-conversion-xr80100/

Most mini bikes use 12mm front and 15mm rear axles, XR200s use 15/17 axles.  Some conversions can be done via bearing swaps with a different ID to suit the XR axles but same OD to suit the mini hubs. Honda part fiche list the 4 digit metric bearing code in the part description, the last number is the ID, the first 3 spec the load class and in turn the OD.  Some bearing data.

No ....  ID x OD x TH
6001 . 12 x 28 x 8
6201 . 12 x 32 x 10
6301 . 12 x 37 x 12
6002 . 15 x 32 x 9
6202 . 15 x 35 x 11
6302 . 15 x 42 x 13
6003 . 17 x 35 x 10
6203 . 17 x 40 x 12
6303 . 17 x 47 x 14

Spoke a 19" on the front and call it good.

I agree, the best solution. There ought to be some 36 spoke 19" rims out there.  If Honda used that hub for a 19" street wheel then rim and spokes are available.  My last experience in building a light weight 21" wheel by converting a mini bike wheel cost me $300, most of which was for the rim and custom spokes.

I looked up a 88 XR100 part fiche and the front wheel bearings are 6201s (12x32x10), you can swap those for 6002 (15x32x9) bearings from a XR200 to suit the XR200 axle.  May need to made a new axle spacer to suit the XR200 axle or mod a XR200 axle spacer to match the length of the XR100 axle spacer. The XR100 hub is probably narrower than the XR200 hub so wheel spacers  may also need work, sometimes washers can fix minor gaps.

The rear is a bit more complicated because it uses two different size bearings, a 6201 (12x32x10)
& a 6301 (12x37x12); no easy bearing swap to suit the XR200's  17mm axle.

The CRF150F has a 16" rim and 17mm axle, I think the hub is the same as the CRF230 and 84+ XR200.

Do some part fiche searches and you may find a mini bike rear wheel that can be modded to suit the XR200.

I know I did a bike for customer and had  early XR200 forks on SL100 and used 100 wheel on it. Was for kid but now that kid is my size so 21 went on it now.
