newbie to SM built my own after bit of input

Recommended Posts

so I decided to dump the mx wheels and get my self a set supermoto wheels and tyres

so after months of toying with the idea they are on a fitted

its only a cr 125 for the road so im not expecting too much from it even with a bore kit and stroker kit

the input im after is gearing ive ordered a few new front and rear sprockets to try out and take notes

what would you's suggest using?

I can't give you specific suggestions as I dont have a cr125 BUT in general when you go from the rear off road setup to a 17 setup it is roughly a 3 tooth difference.  So lets say you were running a 13/52 setup for MX, going 14/52 or 13/49 would be roughly the same gearing as in dirt trim... Since front sprockets are much cheaper and you can usually use the same chain length I would try just going up 1t up front and then try 2t up front and see how it works for you.  Then you can fine tune it with a rear sprocket because you should have a pretty good idea where it should be at that point.
