Metal Shavings?

Recommended Posts

Hey gang so I've got a 2014 DRZ400SM and today while filling up I noticed a small amount of silver metal shavings floating around in my gas tank, is this something to be worried about?  Bike's got maybe 110 miles on it

If you have derbies

in the tank, it will end up somewhere, and you don't want to clog the carb ot the petcock

Empty and clean..

The gas tank fill hole has a rolled edge that will catch the debris under the lip.  Remove petcock and drain tank from there.

new bikes have lots a new stuff floating in the tank, suspended in the oil, resting in the bottom of the engine.

put a fuel filter on it and flush (dump the carb drain spigot) it into a glass jar. look for contaminants. if you see a bunch that made it through the carb, just give it a cleaning and ride.
