09 505XCF Troubles Cranking

Recommended Posts

Greetings, Just joined the forum and fairly new to the four stroke world.

My 505 takes several pushes on the button to get it to crank. Originally I thought it was the starter so I replaced it and does the same thing. Took the side cover off the mag side and it seems it's getting stopped when it hits the compression at TDC. I'm not real experienced with the thumpers and how the auto compression release works but it seems like that might be where the problem is. Any ideas or anybody else have the same issue? Thanks!

The decompressor can wear meaning it won't be as effective

I've looked through my engine manual and didn't see anything that sounded like a decompression item. Am I missing something other than a kickstarter and a compression lever? Haha....

It's in the end of the cam

Must be part of the whole cam, I'm guessing the exhaust cam? Did a search and another guy said he upgraded the whole cam to the 2010. They stopped making the 505 after 09 so I'm not sure which cam he replaced it with and he said it was about a $350 replacement. (Yikes!) Hopefully he replies back, may just have to go that route.
