XR650R funny wooden 'tink' sound

Recommended Posts

My 650r makes a funny tinking sound between 3500 and 4000 rpm, but only at part throttle and only in the lower gears. The best way to describe the sound is like two hard wood blocks knocking together. The engine has very low miles, so I don't think it is anything serious like the rod bearing. What does pinging sound like on these bikes?

I'd describe pinging as a sort of ringing/cracking sound..Bit unusual for it to be happening in lower gears. It's normally

noticeable between a gear change from 4th to 5th at about 80-100kph with the engine under load going up a slope..ie with the motor slightly labouring..Still I suppose it may occur in the lower gears if the bike was a bit lean..
