Wr450 starter clutch problem

Hi guys n girls..myvwr would fire up the other day..so went through the usual checks..conections..fuel.new plug..spark.all is good..opend up to check stator...and there was shards of metal stuck to the pic up and tge stator picups...removed flywheel an noticed that the gear behide the fly has a good bit of play..it slides bk n forth on the crank...examened it and there alot oh heat marks on it...cant fine whare metal shavings has come from..would tgis metal on the pic up stop the bike starting..and is it normal to have 5ml plus play on the starter cluch gear??? I cant find any info on this..i dont want to put it vk for same to happen again
