350 makes a strange sound when cranking over

I have a 13 350, sometimes when I go to start it there is a strange noise from the engine as if it is firing right at the top of the stroke and kinda locks up. It always starts and runs like a dream ,Im wondering if the ignition timing may be slightly out. can I check the timing and if so how ?

They all do that, I think it's when the decompressor doesn't allow the comp to blow off correctly

Huh, I haven't noticed that before. Use to have that problem on motors WITHOUT a decompressor. But on these motors WITH decompressors, it seems to not be an issue anymore.
