Electric starter shimming

Wondering do the starters over time need shimming? I just cleaned my starter and lube it with a mixture of Amsoil light fork oil and Honda moly paste, I made a light paste mixture. The starter just makes loud noise and I don't remember last season doing that, or could be my battery is getting weak. Thanks

Yes, they do require to be in a specific tolerance and use shims to achieve the correct tolerance. The shop manual for your specific model should give you all the info you need.

When you cleaned the starter did you pull apart the actual starter motor or did you just clean the gears?

I just cleaned the gears. I did didn't get a shop manual. I never went to the website to download the repair manual you get online when you buy a new KTM.
