Barn find 1998 cr250 in Scotland

Hi this is my first post here, as the title suggests ive just picked up what i was lead to believe a 2001 cr250 but after checking the vin found its actually a 98. It doesnt have an engine and has been sitting for 8 years so is in pretty bad condition. The plan was to totally restore it and keep for personal use but that was before i found out it was a 98 is there anything i should know about this year? is it worth doing? i was thinking to buy an engine get her running good and just sell, then get a 2001 or younger, any thoughts on this would be appreciated as im just not sure.

Can't see it being worth it. You'd probably end up spending more on the motor itself than a complete bike would be

Best bet would be to find a complete cr250 and use the barn find as a parts bike.

I bought my 98 cr125r in okay but rough shape for $1100

After I'm done now it's worth about $1800

Yeah but he´s in Scotland and not in the land of endlessly cheap CR parts.

Thanks for the replies guys yeah I've been looking for an engine but with no luck all the breakers are buying them up to split and make a quick buck. After giving the bike a good clean today it came up quite well. Problem is there isn't alot of cr250s kicking about that I could buy to do up they have already been done and selling for thousands
