Yz250 over heated and leaking coolant through dump hose

Recommended Posts

My buddies yz250 over heated this weekend, I think it was a bit low on coolant as it was and it was pretty hot out so that's the only reason to over heat I would assume. He put water in it after to see if he could get it going and it ran and had normal power, but ye water was still trickling out of the dump tube the whole time it was running even after it was cooled down and just started up. What could we do to fix this? And can you use any antifreeze in it, because the motocross shops are closed today and we were going to get some at Walmart.

First thing I would do is replace the radiator cap.

And yes, you can use any of the normal green anti freeze. Don't waste your $$ on the pre-mixed 50/50 stuff, get a gallon of regular anti freeze and a $1.00 gallon jug of distilled (demineralized) water. Use a leftover gallon (or half gallon) milk jug and mix your coolant in it, get 2 gallons of 50/50 for the same price as 1 gallon of the pre-mixed stuff.

2000 Ford Ranger truck 3.0 liter V6 engine

This radiator cap is the same as your YZ 250 same size same pressure.

$8.00 at Kragen or Wallmart when you get the coolant
