What does the timing on ttr 125 do?

Recommended Posts

I am new to this stuff and want to know what the timing does and what happens if it is not set right. Also how do I set it? I have looked on YouTube and Google and can't find anything for my 2002 ttr 125

Cam timing makes the valves open and close at the right times so they don't get hit by the piston and end up bent.

You need to read the Yamaha Service Manual for your bike.

Period.

But you are already taking the engine apart twice, right?

I took it to one that can and will do that.

Okay, just saying a typical machine shop will not do valves. They'll cut the seats and machine the head if damaged, but I dont think a regular shop will replace valves/springs.

The guy has the same bike and he said he will put them in for free. He did and as soon as I get home from vacation I will ride it. It runs great now. I put in a new base gasket, new head gasket, new intake and exhaust valves, and new bbr piston rings. So $120 in parts got it running again. Thanks for help
