Cylnder head casting alloy

Recommended Posts

What alloy are cylinder heads cast from?  I assume it is A356...

No one knows?

Well A356 is an ASTM standard which is an American standard.  The Japanese are pretty faithful to their own JIS standard and are even reluctant to adopt ISO.  Whatever the Japanese equivalent to A356 is would probably be the alloy.  The closest JIS alloy appears to be JC4C so that is probably what your head is cast from.

Not really, most aluminum alloys are weldable with the exception of the 7xxx alloys.  Though even some of them are weldable by resistance welding.  A356 and equivalent alloys just happen to be very weldable and require no special procedures in most cases.
