DR600 Starting - using a cordless drill

Recommended Posts

This year I've finally been able to devote time and money to getting my old DR600 going.  I've had it running a couple of times, but still had some carb issues.  Now, I think I'm almost there.

Had an idea from a friend to make starting easier, as that kick start can be a real bitch if you're in the wrong spot, and I've had it partially kick back a couple of times... OUCH!

He suggested trying to use the crank bolt and a cordless drill for starting.  Would this work?  What are the pitfalls?  The one that comes to mind is when the engine starts.  I imagine I'd have to be quick to pull back the drill so it doesn't go with the engine. Any possible way I could devise a system to make this safer?

Get it set up right and you can start it while sitting on the seat.

No, the drill will not work.
